Ewing Depot Project

Brownstown / Ewing Main Street is in the process of acquiring and restoring the "Ewing Depot". Several citizens remember departing from the "Ewing Depot" by train on their travels. Stories of "class trips" departing from the "Ewing Depot" are a common remembrance. Some folks recall visitors to our community arriving at the "Ewing Depot".

Whatever the memories are, BEMS is now trying to save the "Ewing Depot". The town of Brownstown has agreed to acquire the "Ewing Depot" and approximately .75 acres of land in the area it now stands. The "Ewing Depot" must be moved from its current location as it currently sits on the CSX railroad right-of-way and cannot remain that close to the railroad.

This is where we need your Help! BEMS is seeking funds to move and place the "Ewing Depot" on a new foundation. After the depot is moved to its new foundation then restoration can begin.

If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation for this project, please make a donation payable to Brownstown / Ewing Main Street with "Ewing Depot" in the memo.

Donate to our Depot Project

Brownstown/Ewing Main Street is making this nice 11 x 17 print, from local photographer Joe Persinger of his Ewing Depot photo, available to anyone who donates $250 or more to the "Save the Depot" fund.

The committee is also selling prints to benefit the fund drive. CSX has agreed to give the community the depot, but it will take money to move it and for a new foundation and roof, etc.

Brownstown Architectural Master Plan

Brownstown Architectural Master Plan was a result of the collective insight and efforts of Brownstown/Ewing Main Street, other community groups, Town of Brownstown staff and officials, residents, and consultants. RATIO Architects, Inc presented BEMS and the Town of Brownstown with a finalized plan dated August 2012 .

Included in the plan are recommendations for specific buildings along Walnut Street, the Jackson County History Center, and overall downtown in order to provide a clear direction moving forward to achieve the community's vision.

The plan offers suggestions and goals to grow Brownstown, including establishing a brand, incorporating public art, building a community center, improving the history center and restoring the commercial buildings in the downtown.

Copies of the plan are available as PDF documents :
